“Ask For It: How Women Can Use the Power
of Negotiation to Get What They Really Want”

Thursday, March 27, 2008

Time: 7:30 –- 10:30am

Location:
Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP [Map]

1735 Market Street, 51st Floor
Philadelphia, PA 19103

Cost:
$25.00 Members $55.00 Non-Members

About the Program:
During this highly interactive session, Sara Laschever will highlight a recently discovered phenomenon: women still work for less money, progress more slowly, and rarely rise as high as equally qualified men in part because women often accept the status quo, take what they’re offered, and don’t ask for more. Ms. Laschever’s first book, Women Don’t Ask: The High Cost of Avoiding Negotiation—and Positive Strategies for Change, co-authored with Linda Babcock, looked at the causes of women’s reluctance to use negotiation to improve their circumstances and explored the costs to women, their families, their employers, and society as a whole. Ms. Laschever will discuss useful approaches to “learning to ask” from her new book, Ask for It: How Women Can Use the Power of Negotiation to Get What They Really Want, also written with Linda Babcock. Facilitated breakout groups will examine key issues for women in negotiation, with results presented to the larger audience for further discussion. The program will conclude with networking and a book signing, where copies of both books will be available.

Featuring:
Sara Laschever, a writer with a longstanding interest in the life and career obstacles faced by women in the workplace. Her work has been published by The New York Times, The Harvard Business Review, The New York Review of Books, Vogue, Glamour, WomensBiz, and many other publications, and she has lectured about women and negotiationfor numerous corporations, universities, government agencies, professional associations and women’s leadership groups nationwide.
